Remember when pet rocks were all the rage in the 70s? I don’t, I’m too young. But anyway, you know what I’m talking about right? The perfect low maintenance pet who is also a great listener.

Today’s book by Stephen W. Martin is about a little girl who’s parents have opted for this “perfect” pet.

Charlotte quickly sees that this is not the type of pet she was imagining.

But, being a smart girl, she decides to make the most of it and forms a real bond with her rock.

It’s almost perfect, but does this rock really love her back? Kids will be delighted with the surprise ending, and keen-eyed readers may see a reference to a beloved children’s classic, Charlotte’s Web, in the book.

This book speaks volumes about the power of a child’s imagination as well as the power of love. I enjoyed the vintage looking illustrations, but truth be told, I enjoy almost all illustrations.
